Music Committee

Responsibility: The Music Committee exists as an advisory, not supervisory, committee.

 

  • The Music Committee will strive to construct a long range plan for the church music at Granite Peak UU Congregation

  • The Music Committee will encourage church members to include music in the life of GPUUC. This includes both Sunday services and other special events of church life.

  • The Music Committee will assist in the logistics of any special music programs throughout the year such as the Christmas Eve service, The Water Ceremony service, and any special concerts.

  • The Music Committee will be a communication bridge between the congregation and the music staff. They will feel free to provide input and feedback both ways.

  • The Music Committee will work with the music staff in the development of the music budget each year. This will include compensation for the music staff: the Music Director, the Choir Director, and the Pianists

  • A member of the Music Committee will present the proposed budget to the Board of Trustees.

  • The Music Committee will meet with any prospective staff member, as chosen by a search committee.

  • A search committee for a staff person will be organized by the Music Director or Choir Director and the Minister, with the approval of the Board of Trustees.

Composition: The Music Committee will be composed of both the Music Director and the Choir Director. Up to five other congregation members may serve on the committee. No member of the Board of Trustees may serve on the committee, and the Minister shall serve as an ex-officio non voting member. One member of the Board of Trustees will be the music liaison to the Board, and will serve as an ex-officio non voting member.

 

Selection: New members of the Music Committee will be proposed to the Board of Trustees from a list of names mutually decided upon by the minister and the other members of the Music Committee. New members of the Music Committee will be voted in by a majority of members of the Board of Trustees when the names are presented.

 

Term of Office: Members of the Music Committee shall serve a term of two (2) years. They may serve for no more than two (2) consecutive terms. No one can be a member of the Music Committee for more than four (4) consecutive years with the possibility of extra time if he/she is appointed in the middle of a church year. After completing their term of office, members of the Music Committee must complete a period of at least one (1) year off the committee before they can serve on the committee again.
